My project explores how mourning practices can be reimagined within contemporary urban 
life. In Germany, funeral traditions are still closely tied to fixed locations and standardized 
procedures, which many people experience as distant or restrictive. I am developing a memorial object that enables intense mourning within the home and blends atmospherically into everyday life. By combining mineral materials with light, it offers a quiet, contemporary way of remembering. Rather than referencing the urn as a familiar typology, the project seeks a lighter, more open form that allows for closeness, presence, 
and individual rituals. A central challenge is to define a design language that acknowledges the diversity of 
mourning practices and makes remembrance spatially tangible. The project aims to 
contribute to a growing interest in contemporary, self-determined ways of sustaining bonds 
beyond loss.
