As a designer, I want to use visual means to show how easy it is to overlook the warning signs of depressionand how quiet something can be that is so loud inside.
all good (?) – look. listen.
An illustrated awareness campaign on the topic of depression.
“I don't necessarily want others to understand how I feel. But I want them to believe me.”
This quote from one of my interviews describes what I see as one of the biggest challenges in
dealing with depression: An illness that is overwhelming for those affected and often invisible
to outsiders. As a designer, I want to use visual means to show how easily signals can be
overlooked—and how quiet something can be that is so loud inside.
To this end, I have developed an awareness campaign that consists of two levels: Illustrated
posters, postcards and displays show people in everyday, reserved situations. Only when
scanned with a smartphone does a hidden AR layer open up, in which metaphorical illustrations
reveal the emotional inner world of the people depicted.
With this two-layered structure, I want to make the difference between external impression and
internal experience tangible. “all good (?)” aims to encourage people to look more closely, listen
more carefully, and take depression seriously for what it is: A real, profound illness that is far too
often overlooked.
