I want to make unused wool visible and show what possibilities it holds.
Wool Mate
A social design initiative to rediscover wool.
| At a time when natural materials have largely been replaced by synthetic alternatives and wool often ends up unused as a waste product, I want to show that wool is much more than a traditional textile: It is natural, versatile, functional, sustainable, and biodegradable. I want to bring this to life through the social initiative WOOL MATE. I use screen printing to create large-format posters from wool blanket scraps left over from production in a wool weaving mill. These posters not only convey messages, but also provide material for people's own creative projects. People can transform from passive consumers to active creators and make their own products from the wool poster. Parts of the original poster can thus be found in all products and are part of the movement. WOOL MATE is also an online platform where results are shared, others are inspired, and exchange is encouraged. It is a social and creative statement against throwaway culture, for the responsible use of natural raw materials, and for participation — an impulse to rediscover wool, design it yourself, and think ahead together. |
