“I want to be in love. You want to be in love. He, she, it wants likewise (to be in love). We, you, want, want. They want too …” — Boris Vian, Fro
Fair to Cloudy
A Textile Pattern Collection
But what does it really mean to be in love? A feeling that is at once light and overwhelming – a futter between excitement and uncertainty, between longing and the small pain that can dwell within it. Being in love is a tension between euphoria and fear, closeness and distance, merging and the loss of one’s own boundaries, dream and reality. In my pattern collection, I try to illustrate these ambivalences. The textile fabric itself becomes part of the concept: It also moves between privacy and the public view, between freedom and limitation. Fabric flows or stretches, reacts to light, movement and touch – and through this, it can make moods, tension and intimacy visible. My work builds on my apprenticeship as a tailor: Textile surfaces are not only designed illustratively but also experienced immersively. Patterns can create atmosphere, open narrative spaces, and be further transformed into upholstery, lampshades or garments. The challenge was balancing order and chaos – and translating the emotional complexity of being in love into a functional yet open pattern system.
