As a part of the climbing scene, I see how comparison, pressure to perform and self-criticism affect my climbing and that of others – and I wanted to make these inner processes visible and encourage people to think about them.
Pinch Yourself!
A campaign to raise awareness about pressure, comparison and self-image.
In climbing, we talk a lot about technique, strength and progress – but rarely about what happens internally. Often,
it is not the body that determines success or failure, but the mind: C comparing ourselves to others, the pressure
to improve, or the critical view of our own bodies. These internal reactions accompany many climbers, even if they
are rarely discussed. This is where the project comes in. It focuses on the mental aspects of climbing: O on
moments when looking at the neighbouring route raises doubts, on movements that become more difficult due to
expectations, and on thoughts that revolve around appearance, performance or self-esteem.
The project makes these patterns visible, classifies them and offers impulses for reflection. It shows that mental
strength does not consist in repression, but in understanding one's own inner processes. The materials developed
are intended to provide guidance, give food for thought and help people to approach their own experiences with
greater clarity and self-care.
