My time spent on an internship abroad in Denmark inspired me to undertake my project.
SNAK
Seating for the neighborhood
In my project, I develop a mobile, one-handed foldable stool that hangs in the hallway and enables spontaneous
encounters on the sidewalk right outside the front door. I was inspired by my internship in Aarhus, where benches are placed at regular intervals in front of houses, enlivening public space. There, I experienced how low-threshold seating encourages community, prevents loneliness, and invites people to spend more time outdoors. I wanted to transfer this feeling into my own living environment. For me, the stool represents an opportunity to strengthen social closeness on a small scale—whether it‘s a quick chat with neighbors, a moment in the sun with a cofee, or a short break with a book. Throughout the design process, I learned to balance functionality and lightness while focusing on intuitive usability. The biggest challenge was developing a stable, comfortable, yet quickly deployable construction that can be easily integrated into the hallway.
