How different would our world be if FLINTA* were allowed to be angry?
The inverse of Thirst
An experimental short film about the emotion of anger from a female socialised perspective and the accompanying feeling of emptiness.
Females learn to be quiet. But this silence is not peace, it is control, conformity and
denial. Anger is loud and is therefore denied, not taken seriously and suppressed. It
should not be visible. It is dangerous to be angry as a female, but it is even more
dangerous not to be.
Our film tells the story of a female socialized person who encounters her long-
suppressed anger. On an island, surrounded by water and vastness, what she has
swallowed all her life materializes. But this time she decides differently. She goes to
the front door she has wanted to stand in front of for a long time, rings the bell and
will no longer remain silent.
Our project taught me mindfulness, courage, and to feel and recognize that “being
bitchy” was never a weakness, but always an expression of self-worth and liberation.
With our film, we want to encourage FLINTA*s to get to know their anger, give it
space, and use it powerfully. As sisters, we can make a difference together. And
with that: Let's get loud together.
