What relationship do we still have with nature in our modern everyday lives, which are characterized by urban environments, speed, and technology?
Beneath open skies
A photobook on the resonant relationship between humans and nature
At the heart of my project lies the visual exploration of the resonant
relationship between humans and nature (as described by Hartmut Rosa). Where
are we part of nature, and where do we stand apart – in dialogue or in
conflict? How can resonance become visible? My aim is to sharpen our
awareness of the importance of nature for us – physically, mentally, and
socially – and to deepen our sense of awareness with it. The
photographs and texts intentionally leave space for personal interpretation,
as each individual’s resonance with nature is unique.
The project was inspired by my own bond with nature, which in everyday life
finds increasingly little room. Even here in Germany, there are fewer and
fewer places where nature is allowed to unfold freely. The greatest challenge
throughout the process was to grasp the complexity of the topic while
simplifying it to match the project’s framework. Particularly enriching – and
equally demanding – was approaching the subject photographically, as my
previous focus lay in communication design.
